Marybank Farm – A Stunning Boutique Function and Wedding Reception Venue
Marybank Farm instantly envelops me with peace as I absorb the abundant beauty of its rich gardens. Exuding country charm, this is nature at its best.
I’m writing quite a bit about weddings this month, having recently returned from my beautiful cousin Lores and her dashing beau Aurelio’s destination wedding in Ibiza (post soon to come). Much closer to home, I visit Marybank Farm to watch a young couple take their vows where my son is one of the groomsman at his school friend’s wedding.
It’s a glorious, sunny October afternoon and after a short drive from the city, we wind our way up Montacute Road towards the Adelaide foothills and arrive at Marybank Farm.
An historic property, Marybank Farm has lush gardens and magnificent hillside views to the city of Adelaide through huge, majestic gum trees. Built in 1842, the 60 acre property was sold to the Fox family in 1852 and still remains in the family.
Marybank is a working farm comprised of half gardens and half vineyards, and their high quality shiraz grapes are sold to the esteemed Penfolds Wines. Murray Beef Cattle also graze on the property.
Brie Lloyd is a direct Fox family descendent on her mother’s side. She and her husband Billy Bain make a great team running the events at Marybank Farm. Over the past four years she and Billy have breathed new life into Marybank and industry awards are testament to their growing success.
Brie runs front of house and Billy captains the kitchen. They met whilst both working in hospitality in Adelaide, then moved to Clare where they started a Mediterranean restaurant, Citadel, which they owned for eight years. Billy is a chef with great credentials. He also worked in Clare with well-known winemaker Tim Adams, opening up Mr Mick’s Restaurant where he worked for two years before they moved back to Adelaide with their two young children.
Marybank Farm caters for boutique style weddings and functions. Sit down events are catered for 40-50 people and stand up events cater for up to 100 people. Food packages can be tailored to your requirements. Brie and Billy tell me that pizza weddings are becoming more popular, a trend no doubt started by Russell’s Pizza in Willunga.
The Barn includes luxurious, upper level accommodation with beautiful views over the property. This stylish, self-contained suite is suitable for the honeymoon couple or as a romantic weekend retreat. A log fire adds to its charm in winter.
