If you’re looking for some seriously good ‘coffee’ and a great ‘feed’ then head to Coffeed Cafe, the heart of Aberfoyle Village Shopping Centre.
This suburban gem of a cafe opened a little over a year ago and has filled a much needed gap in the local area. Coffeed Cafe is all about consistently great coffee and food. Their breakfasts, in particular, have garnered a huge following.
Filip, part owner of Coffeed Cafe, tells me that his favourite part of running a cafe is dealing with customers. ‘Interacting with people, they become a part of your life and you become a part of their life.’ An earlier career in mechanical engineering was quickly overshadowed by Filip’s love of working with people. It wasn’t long before he swapped his desk job for the fast paced life of working in hospitality.
Young gun owners, Filip and Troy, forged a solid business partnership after meeting each other while working together several years’ ago. Talented barista Filip runs front of house and Troy, whose background is in cooking, heads the kitchen team. They are both very proud of what they have created at Coffeed, but admit the opening was a huge learning curve. The red tape involved with licence approvals, renovations, organising equipment and POS software all took longer than expected.
Coffeed Cafe has quickly grown a loyal customer base, with many coffee lovers finding their way to this cafe in the southern suburbs. As well as coffee, they have a super range of cold drinks – frappes, smoothies and fresh juices. And a good selection of beer and wine makes lunch and dinner at Coffeed the complete package.
Filip tells me that he and Troy’s key to success is consistency of quality. They love making coffee, cooking great food and keeping people happy – and Filip insists that the coffee must be just as good if he’s not there. Coffeed Cafe’s recent finalist status in the coffee category of the Onkaparinga Council’s business awards, and their five star review ratings, are both testimonials to this.
Consistency is key to success
Their local coffee supplier was chosen after careful research. It’s local, small batch coffee roaster Blk Mrkt Coffee who provide the beans of choice for this cafe. Blk Mrkt Coffee produces a ‘clean cut’ coffee flavour profile, which has certainly struck the right chord. Filip shares that the owner of Blk Market Coffee, Ben Rosenthal, is a ‘great guy – and a genius when it comes to coffee’. They choose to use Blk Mrkt Coffee because it’s a ‘small, boutique roaster with personal service, and the coffee is fantastic’.
Coffeed’s menu has a terrific range of delicious options for any time of day. Their breakfast menu includes both small and large items, including brekky rolls, smoothie bowls and decadent buttermilk pancakes and waffles. The lunch and dinner menu offers satisfying Turkish roll burgers – think Big Lad Burger, Shrooms & Cheese Burger and Pulled Port Burger to name a few. Pasta dishes include well-known Italian favourites Spaghetti Chilli Prawns and Penne con Pollo. Thoughtful gluten free and vegan options are also available.
House-made raw slices are a speciality. Peanut better, lemon, coconut and chocolate caramel are all on offer. Delicious chocolate brownies are also in high demand.
Owners Filip and Troy share similar interests when they’re off the job. In their spare time they both enjoy motorbike riding in the hills – to relax and take their minds off the business. Filip loves to travel when he has the time, and spent a year living in Croatia five years’ ago. A dog lover, Troy and his girlfriend are the proud owners of Luna, their German Shepherd.
One thing’s for sure – with such consistently great coffee and food, and super friendly owners who really look after their customers, Coffeed Cafe is a very welcome addition to Aberfoyle Park’s ‘Village’ and definitely here to stay.
